	A general surgeon specializing in general, vascular and obesity surgery, and Director of the Coastal Center for Obesity, Dr. Owens earned his medical degree at McGill University in Montreal. He performed his specialty training in surgery at the University of Utah. He has served as the chief of the Kidney Transplant Service at the Veterans Hospital in West Los Angeles and was a member of the UCLA faculty from 1974 to 1982. In 1982, Dr. Owens joined Dr. Carl Hill in San Pedro. He is an active member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery, and is currently chairman of the Public Education Committee.
