Our program includes all three phases of treatment:
Pre-op, Surgery and Post-op care and support.
Pre-op Program
The pre-op program begins with extensive qualification
screenings. Patients must meet specific criteria and demonstrate
a commitment to the entire strategy as well as a willingness to
change their lifestyle. The pre-operative phase includes
extensive psychological testing and preparation. Candidates
attend consultations and seminars explaining the surgery
procedures, anatomy changes, physiological changes, risks,
benefits and necessary lifestyle changes associated with gastric
bypass surgery. Additionally, prior to surgery, all patients
must attend support group meetings to gain insights from other
patients about the journey ahead.
Surgery
A normal hospital experience for weight loss surgery is as
follows:
-
You enter the hospital the day of the procedure
-
The Surgery last approximately 1-4 hours
-
You begin walking that same day
-
You begin a short-term liquid diet the following day
-
Normally, you are home within 2-4 days after procedure
Post-op Care and Support
The post-op phase maps out a new healthy lifestyle regimen,
offering motivational support groups, an individual buddy plan
for extra encouragement when needed, exercise guidelines, and
continued psychological counseling.
Post-op patients become members of the Costal Center for Obesity
extended family as they navigate their way through their new
healthy and fulfilling lifestyle. Several Post-op visits are
frequent for the initial months, becoming less frequent after
that. Patients are encouraged to attend regular support groups
and keep in contact for years. Continued communication with the
Center is mutually beneficial, ensuring that patients are kept
up to date on the latest information in the treatment of obesity
and providing the patient with information to help manage and
guide their success.
