Topic: Weight Regain Posted By: Autumn Date: 8-21-2006
I had surgery in Dec. 2000 ans lost 130 pounds in a year. I was so happy and
healthier. Last May I was having a hard time pesonally and I started eating
bad things. In the last 15 months I have regained over 80 pounds! I hate it! I
have been back on protein shaked for a few weeks and lost 18 pounds so far but
the last few days I have gotten back to snacking all the time. Can anyone give
me advice on how to get my control back? I am so frustrated and unhappy this
way!

Topic: I'm not losing any weight and I'm so frustrated =( Posted By: Russ Date: 3-25-2004
Hi All!

I had my bypass done on March 8th 2004 by the awesome Dr. Oliak. I can't say
enough about how great he is. But, my problem is I'm not losing any weight?

For the past 3 weeks I've been drinking the shakes and recently I have 1 egg
for breakfast and sometimes 1 for dinner. I also eat someties 2 slices of
cheese or 2 slices of super thin sliced turkey sandwhich mean. And I've
actually gained weight this week!!! I do drink a lot of water but its been 3
weeks now =(

I take all my vitamins and I just getting so frustrated. I'm not walking all
that much but I've had friends who lost soooooooooo much within the few month
or 2 and I'm sitting with almost no loss?

People tell me to just wait or I'm not eating enough?

I have not had any breads or sugar of any type and I've not cheated at all!!!
I really want this to work but I don't know why it isn't =(

I really need some help here. I've erad about Jen and the others and I really
hope some of you have some things that will help me beat this.

My goal is to lose about 80 to 90 pounds.

Please help me turn my frown upsidedown!

Russ

Topic: Anger Management Posted By: Jen Date: 3-23-2004
Hello everyone and Happy Friday ; )

My name is Jennifer and I had gastric bypass surgery on January 15, 2004. I
have lost 73 pounds in the last 2 months and I am OVERJOYED with this
progress. However, I have a dilemma.

I have been overweight and, to be perfectly honest, addicted to food for
about 17 years. At 27 years old, I have participated in this addictive
behavior over half of my life. Despite all of my weight loss success, I find
myself very frustrated and angry because I can't rely on my old behavior to
cope with stress. I constantly remind myself of all the wonderful things WLS
has allowed me to do and achieve, but the thought of a plate of soul food
drowns out all of the positives. Thanks to God, I have been extremely
compliant with my new way of eating, but the fact of the matter is I find
myself almost constantly preoccupied with wanting to ea! t things that I know
I shouldn't and physically can't.

A very close friend told me that I need to find a way to replace my old
habits with new ones and use those good habits to cope with everyday stress.
I have racked my brain thinking about what I could do, but I'm coming up with
absolutely nothing. I love to sing, so I joined my church choir. This has
been a wonderful release for me, but practice is on Tuesday nights and church
is on Sunday. What to do Monday & Wednesday - Saturday?

I would truly appreciate your input/feedback and any suggestions you may have
if you've been through what I'm experiencing. Unfortunately, I can't attend
the support groups, but I am hoping your responses will provide the support I
desperately need right now.

Thank you in advance for your time!
Jen

Response: ANSWER #1:
I am 27 and had the bypass 5/8/03. I have lost 119 pounds. I too was very angry and depressed for quite a few months. I was mad at the world. Mean to my husband and my kids. I was disgusted with them for eating in my presence.

For myself, I started reading, I always loved it but lacked the time, always tending to my kids. I had to make the time for me. I also had to go through a bit of counseling, but overall, I love my books.

And sometimes I will miss something I used to eat, but I am happier with the new food choices that I make. And as time goes on, you will find that you can physically eat some of those old things that you used to crave, and when you do cheat and take a bite. It will never give you the same satisfaction that it once did. It will feel heavy or greasy or just plain nasty. You wont want to even attempt to finish it. And then when that old feeling comes back you will again waste money on something that your head tells you that it wants and craves, and when you have it, you wont be able to eat it. It's just not the same. But it takes time.
Be patient and keep going to church, I wish I was bigger on church, I believe that it would have helped me through that time.

ANSWER #2.
ject: RE: Anger Management

I find that the times I have the most cravings, is when I have not eaten enough of the protein I know I should and when I look back at my diet log I can pretty much find that I have been hitting the carbs too much. That is my first suggestion, check the diet and increase the protein.

But to what you asked. I would suggest since singing is a passion, look for other type groups outside of church to perform in. Look at local theater groups to see if they have a musical starting up. If you can't find any, maybe start your own? I wish you good luck in redirection that nasty hungry craving for all the wrong stuff in the right direction, and I honestly think that checking that protein is the first step.

Topic: Bariatric Fitness Class Posted By: Steve Date: 3-11-2004
If any one is interested and lives in San Diego. The Mission Valley YMCA has a
pre and post-bariatric surgery fitness class. It meets Tues and Thurs nights
7 - 8 PM. It is the only one in San Diego County. If you are interested in
more details, email me at sfoster2@cox.net. You DO NOT have to be a YMCA
member to join. It is a great way to get back into the physical fitness arena
and it is loads of fun!!

Topic: Lap Band Surgery Posted By: LaRett Date: 2-6-2004
Hello All,
I'm considering having the Lap Band surgery. I'd like to hear from any of you
that have had this surgery. I've read and heard the weight loss is slower than
with gastric bypass, which is okay for me. My main concern is the foreign
object being in my body for years. Are there any of you that have had the Lap
Band for a year or more? But I would be happy to hear from anyone who has had
the Lap Band for any amount of time.
Thanks - Good luck with your continued success with weight loss.

Topic: Gas Posted By: Tina Date: 1-15-2004
Anna, Are you drinking your shakes through a straw or a container with a sport
top? Doing this will help to avoid air when swallowing. Too, I do not know
how recently you had surgery, but if you had laparoscopic surgery it is not
uncommon for you to experience gas. Walk around or lay on your right side to
relieve the gas pains. Dark stool is most likely due to the iron in trinsicon.
